Palatka/Moorings Cruise April 2009

The WHNC cruised the beautiful St. Johns River to Palatka.  This is one of the clubs favorite areas to boat.  The St. John's River is scenic, nature abounds, and well marked.  The group trailered from Auburndale to the launch point at Ed Stone Park in Deland, FL.  Seems there was a bit of excitement on the road trip to the ramp.  Wooden Nickels has a hub/bearing failure.  After a repair the group was back on the road.  Lake George which can be rough was cooperating nicely on this trip.  No rough water awaited the group for the Lake george crossing.  The Moorings was a bit os a challenge dock-wise.  Water depth was an issue with some slips as was reliable electric.  With a little shuffling, everyone was securely tied for the night.  The Italian restaurant on site was very good.  The were very accommodating.  Rooms were "old" but clean.  The continental breakfast in the morning left much to be desired.  A single package of powder coated donuts purchased at a local convenience store perhaps?  This didn't deter the WHNC.  A few drove to Palatka and all it took was a quick run to the local Mickey D's for a fresh hot breakfast.  The trip back to Deland and the trailer trip home proved to be blissfully uneventful!
