WINTER HAVEN NAUTICAL CLUB meets the 1st Wednesday of every month. Potluck dinner at 6:30 PM. Bring a dish to pass. Regular meeting begins at 7:30 PM at the Clubhouse, 695 Avenue K SW. Commodore Smith called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm with the Pledge to the Flag. 27 members were present. Phyllis Ingraham, read the minutes from the March Board Meeting. Ronnie Herl gave the Treasurers Report and posted it on the board.
ACTIVITIES – Susan Hutchinson, Chairperson
SUSAN was absent for the first time since taking this position many years ago. BECKY called for the reports:
ITALIAN NIGHT WITH FASHIONS BY JACQUELINE – MARCH 15 – 5PM – Phyllis Ingraham reported that there were 33 adults and 2 children in attendance. Because Rosemary Krencisz and Phyllis Ingraham prepared and donated the spaghetti with homemade sauce and meatballs, tossed salad and dessert the profit was $360.75. The Fashion Show was a big hit! Thanks to Jacqueline and the models. The evening was dedicated to the memory of Joanne Cook
WORK DAY- APRIL 19, 2008 AT 8:00 AM. PAT WELLS ASKED EVERYONE TO COME HELP GET THE CLUB CLEANED UP FOR SPRING.
PROGRESSIVE DINNER-APRIL 27- Margaret Barrett is chairing this event. We will meet at the Club at 1:45 pm and then carpool to the American Legion on Avenue M for appetizers at 2 pm, come back to WHNC for steak dinner, and then go to Littrells for dessert, visiting and swimming. Tickets are available for $25 a couple, $13 single and $6.00 for children 11 and under. Come and eat all day long! Call Margaret at 965-7629 to reserve your place. She has to have a definite number when ordering the steaks.
YARD SALE – MAY 17 8am until 1 pm– PAT WELLS reported that a table can be rented for $10.00 to sell your things. You have your choice of setting up inside, outside or on the porch. Please start saving items for the Club table. We will sell breakfast and lunch the day of the sale.
CHRISTMAS PARTY – DECEMBER 13- We will be checking out the American Legion facilities during the Progressive Dinner. We will need WHNC Veterans to join the Legion so that we can get all our members in for the Christmas Party. Each member can bring 4 guests. Please see Bill Barrett or Mike Hall for information on joining the Legion. It’s painless!
PIZZA SALE- Orders were turned into Becky Smith who reported that the certificates will be distributed at the Progressive Dinner and at the May meeting which is April 30th.
Discussion was held on the Adopt a Highway program and a vote was taken. Please call Margaret Barrett, 965-7629 to let her know you will take a turn picking up litter and trash on Rout 540 from Overlook to Winterset. We need to clean up the roadway 4 times a year for 2 years. In return, our name will be on a road sign stating that we have adopted that 2 mile stretch of road.
CRUISES – John Valich, Cruise Master

IMPROMPTU CRUISE to Sarasota MARCH 29 - 30. Mike reported that we had 5 boats and 12 people on this cruise including Halls, Emrys, Smiths, Burgesses, Beckners and Barretts. The weather was perfect and the weekend was great!
CRESCENT LAKE CRUISE – APRIL 12-13 – Bill Barrett, Cruise leader for Jim Walker. We will leave Loves Truck Stop at Route 559 and I- 4 exit 44 at 8:00 am. If you want to eat breakfast at Arbys, arrive early. We will trailer to Ed Stone Park on Route 44 near Deland. After launching, we will go north on the St. John’s River to Dunn’s Creek and follow that into Crescent Lake. There is a small restaurant at the extreme south end of the lake. We will eat lunch there. After lunch, we will cruise to Quality Inn, Palatka . Rooms are $79.99 with free docking. Stayaboards will pay $35.95 for a dock with electric. Docks are on a first come first served basis. Call Dee or Sherry at Quality Inn for a room. We will eat dinner Saturday night across the river at Gators Dockside Restaurant. The Quality Inn serves breakfast. Call Mike or Bill if you haven’t signed up for this cruise and are interested in going.
TENN-TOMBIGBEE WATERWAY CRUISE – MAY 3-18. Bill Barrett reported that the meeting for this cruise will be Wednesday, April 16, 7:00 pm at the Club. Please come to hear about this 2 week adventure!
RENTALS – Dick Littrell
Dick reported a reservation on May 3, rentals on: May 10 and May 31. The Bass Club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Club.
SHIPS STORE – Ira Sansolo
Ira is taking over the store. We will get some shirts to have an inventory. Please contact Ira at 662-4987 to place an order or discuss possible items to sell. Ira asked that if anyone wishes to order business cards, call him. He will donate the referral fee to the Club. Ira will also take over the badge project. Please let him know if you haven’t received a name badge. Ira also announced that he is a Notary. Contact him if you need a document notarized. He is willing to provide the service free of charge to members.
HARBOR & GROUNDS – David Hutchinson
Thanks to Mike Hall and Bill Barrett for replacing the boards on the dock. A thank you to Richard Emry for providing tools to get the job done. Now Bob Krencisz will get names on the boards.
HOUSEKEEPING – Pat Wells
WORK DAY – APRIL 19 – 8:00 am. Please come to help spruce up the club. Future work days are scheduled for June 14, August 9, and October 4. Pat thanked Dave and Becky.for hosting the April membership meeting. Please sign up for a turn as hosts. Calendar is posted on the refrigerator. Pat has posted rules in the kitchen and on the porch. Please read these notices. She also reported that the hot water heater is turned off until we need hot water. If you turn it on, please turn it off when you are done. TECO told Pat this will save on our electric bill.
Great American Clean Up Day on March 15th _ Pat thanked Bill and Margaret, herself and Bob Wells for participating.
Amber Herl -reported on the Winter Haven Sunset Celebration this weekend. There will be food, games, entertainment with free admission. Also this weekend is a Citizens for Florida Waterways Flea Market at Merritt Island from 1 pm to 4 pm. If you can, please support these activities. Remember to wear your Winter Haven Nautical Club shirt!
WAYS AND MEANS – Margaret Barrett
Pat Wells reported that we will have a plant sale starting at the May meeting on April 30, 2008 She will bring in plants for sale and members can order plants on that night and for 2 weeks thereafter. She will try to get it for you. The plants will be delivered on Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Club. A cookout will be held that evening at 6:00 pm. We will have a fire and prepare hotdogs on sticks. Commodore Smith reported that the Membership Drive runs until the June. The member bringing in the most new members will receive a prize. Get applications at the club or on line and remember to enter your name on the reference line. Bring your members with you to the meeting, April 30, 2008.

Barbara Klerk’s father is very ill.
Bill Barrett announced that Phyllis Walker passed away on Monday, March 31. Visitation will be at Oak Ridge Funeral Care on Havendale Blvd Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral Service, conducted by Jim’s brother, Bob Walker, of Edmond, OK will be at 11 am Saturday. Jim wants everyone to come to his home after the service. Donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice or Faith In Action, Mission the Haiti. Both are favorite charities of the Walkers.

Richard Emry announced that anyone purchasing a boat from Marine Supply will receive a gift certificate for 3 months membership to WHNC
Richard also announced that he will donate $25 for each boat that we haul to boat shows for Marine Supply. The next show is in Lakeland at the Sears Essentials. He needs 30 to 40 boats taken over on Thursday, May 15 and returned to Marine Supply on Sunday, May 18. Please contact Richard Emry at 324-4249 or 412-5776 if you can help out.
