WINTER HAVEN NAUTICAL CLUB meets the 1st Wednesday of every month. Potluck dinner at 6:30 PM. Bring a dish to pass. Regular meeting begins at 7:30 PM at the Clubhouse, 695 Avenue K SW. Commodore Smith called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm with the Pledge to the Flag. 31 members were present. Phyllis Ingraham, read the minutes from the April Board Meeting. Ronnie Herl gave the Treasurers Report and posted it on the board.
ACTIVITIES – Susan Hutchinson, Chairperson
FLEA MARKET/YARD SALE – MAY 17 8am until 1 pm– PAT WELLS reported that the Yard Sale was not well attended. The Club’s total profit was $289.29. Individuals rented tables for $10 each but many didn’t even break even. Arlene Adams and Margaret Barrett will go through the left over items and use them for future club projects and/or donate them to the Good Shepherd Hospice Thrift Shop in Lakeland.
PLANT SALE – Pat Wells announced that the plant sale netted $178.13. Several members purchased plants. The plants were passed out at the cookout on May 30. We had hotdogs and hamburgers. Margaret announced that the donations collected were $96.00. Thanks to Bob Beckner for the hamburgers. The hotdogs were left over from the Yard Sale.
SHRIMP BOIL – Sunday, June 8, 2008 at 5 pm. Mike and Nancy Hall will chair this event. The menu includes fresh boiled hot and cold shrimp and oysters. The price will be $10 per person, $5.00 for children 12 and under. Mike asked everyone to bring a side dish to feed about 4 people... A firm price will be announced at the June meeting.
WINE AND CHEESE TASTING AND SHOWTIME - JUNE 28, 2008 WINE AT 5 PM, SHOWTIME AT 7:30 PM. Becky Smith and Marty Kidwell are chairing this fun event. Becky announced that Marty has 14 acts for Showtime. You don’t want to miss them! The price is $20 per person. Children are not allowed to come to the Wine and Cheese Tasting but will be able to enjoy Show Time for $10.00. Fliers have been sent to other clubs and as of this date, some Daytona Club members are coming and are participants in Showtime. Please pass the word to your friends, relatives and neighbors. Let’s make this the best Showtime yet! Margaret is selling Raffle tickets for a diamond and white gold pendant necklace. Tickets are 3 for $5.00 and will be on sale until the drawing during Show Time.
CASINO NITE –AUGUST 23, 2008 - Arlene Adams gave an overview of what happens at Casino Nite. Please see Arlene or Barbi Dodd to volunteer to help out and/or if you have any auctions items they might use. Tickets are $10.00. No one under 21 is allowed at this event. Pass the word to relatives, friends and neighbors over 21!
CHRISTMAS PARTY – DECEMBER 13, 2008. The Christmas Party will be held at the American Legion. It will include a catered meal at the American Legion followed by the Legion’s entertainment and dancing. More information later in the year.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND CRUISE – MAY 24-26, 2008 – RALPH KEAR, cruise leader reported that four boats left Gulfport early Saturday morning (Hall, Barrett, Walker and Smith) 3 boats left Punta Gorda Saturday (Valich, Guyer and Kear) and one boat left LaBelle Saturday (Spies) Everyone met at Legacy Harbor in Fort Myers (some earlier than others). People who drove down to join us included Hutchinsons, R. Herls and P. Herls. Ralph and Mavra arrived quite late because of boat trouble. Valich’s had to change a tire on the way back and Smith’s had trouble with the gas cap on Saturday. It was a very nice cruise. The group from Gulfport was on the water 7 hours each way and covered 120 miles. Punta Gorda people traveled 70 miles.
SARASOTA CRUISE – JUNE 21-22, 2008. Mike reported that the docking fees are $1.65 per foot and $4.00 for electricity. If you are staying at the hotel, the dock rates are $1.25 per foot. The group will leave from TA Truck stop exit 10, I-4 Westbound at 9:00 am. The launch site is Gulfport Municipal Marina. There is a planned lunch stop at Mar vista Restaurant or Moore’s Crab shack on Longboat Key before we get to Sarasota. Bob Beckner has information on a Magic Show and Buffet at the hotel for Saturday night. The other dinner option is Anna Maria Oyster Bar. TWIN DOLPHIN CRUISE – JULY 3-6, 2008- Mike reported that the group will depart from TA Truck stop, exit 10, I-4 Westbound. The time (afternoon) has not yet been determined. The launch site once again is at Gulfport Municipal Marina. The docking fees are $1.80 per foot and the group will qualify for the Getaway Package which includes $20 off dinner or a free appetizer and a free bag of ice daily. Smiths and Emrys are leaving on Friday, July 4 so you have two departure dates from which to choose. Please call Mike at 899-8731 or Becky at 968-0338 for more information. Dick reported a reservation on June 6, June 7, June 14, and Oct 18. The Bass Club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Club.

Ira reported that badges were purchased for members who didn’t have them. See Ira to order or discuss possible items to sell. If you want monograms, please let him know.

HOUSEKEEPING – Pat Wells
Pat Wells thanked Lucille Tremblay for hosting tonight’s meeting and Dick Littrell for pressure washing the porch, tables and chairs. She also thanked Jackie Littrell for hanging the drapes. Gale Guyer went home to get a fan to dry the carpet which got wet from a rental mishap. Discussion followed on the condition and cleaning expenses of the carpet. If you are hosting an event, please check on supplies and let the housekeeping committee know what is needed. A shopping list is posted on the refrigerator.
MEMBERSHIP – Amber Herl
Commodore Smith reported that no new members have joined during the membership drive. We have 35 members to date. Ronnie announced that the committee needs a new chairperson starting in August. Amber will be working full time and returning to school. She won’t be able to continue as Chairman of the committee. Please call Becky if you can help out.

Suzanne announced that Arlene Adams brother recently passed away. She also thanked Gale for designing a new birthday card to be sent to club members.
WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE – Margaret Barrett
Discussion was held in April on the Adopt a Highway program and a vote was taken. We need people willing to take a turn picking up litter and trash on Route 540 from Overlook to Winterset. It will be necessary to clean up the roadway 4 times a year for 2 years. In return, our name will be on a road sign stating that we have adopted that 2 mile stretch of road. OLD BUSINESS
Richard Emry presented the Club with $775 which represents $25 for each boat that was hauled to the boat show in Lakeland for Marine Supply. Richard also presented a thank you package to the volunteers who delivered and picked up the boats. Those people are: Mike Hall, Gale Guyer, Dick Littrell, Frank Ingraham, Ralph Kear, David Hutchinson, and Dave Smith. Richard said the next show will be in the fall and he will repeat the program. This is a win-win situation for the Club and Marine Supply!
Becky reported that the City of Winter Haven started work on our Delta project. They got their machine stuck in the muck and tore up the yard getting it out. Work will continue on the project during June.
Becky has put the WHNC business cards by the phone books in the kitchen. Take a few to hand out when you are talking to prospective members.
NEW BUSINESS
Bob Beckner wants to prepare a “Standard Operating Procedure” for the club to help people take over events. Discussion followed on helping people step forward to chair events and committees and making new people feel welcome at the Club. Please contact Bob if you think you can assist him on this project.
