ACTIVITIES – David Hutchinson, (filling in for Susan) Chairperson
CASINO NIGHT - July 23 – Arlene Adams reported there were 42 in attendance and the club made $577. She thanked all who attended and especially those who helped with the events: Barbi Dodd, Kenny Dodd, Jackie & Dick Littrell, Marty & Wes Kidwell, Mike Hall, Jack Hardy, Pat Wells and Joanne Cook. Everyone had a great time; however, Bill Stevens thinks paying $750,000 for a Cereal Bowl is a little much, even if it is a BIG bowl. There was plenty of food for all and lots of money to be won!!
Progressive Dinner August 14 – 2 pm – Adults $10, Children ages 5-12 $5, under 5 $2.50 – Margaret Barrett reported appetizers will be at Don and Joanne Cook’s home, dinner at the club, and dessert at Dick and Jackie Littrell’s home. As there is a limit of 50 people for this event, if you want to attend, please contact Margaret to verify there is still a spot for you, 965-7629. We will meet at the club at 2pm and car or boat pool to the Cooks. Dinner will be served at the club after the appertizers and then it’s over to the Littrell’s for dessert and a pool party. If you would like to help with appertizers, please contact Arlene Adams, 293-0207. If you have a dessert in mind to bring, please contact Jackie Littrell, 295-9788. Join us for a good time.
Western Night - September 17 – 2 pm – Adults $10, Children ages 5-12 - $5 – Frankie Via and David Smith are in charge of the event this year, so come on over to the club and see what they have planned. Dinner will consist of Ribs, baked potatoes, baked beans and salad. Entertainment will be provided with more information at the September meeting. Be prepared to laugh, sing and have a great time!! The guys have asked that those planning to attend purchase tickets at the September meeting so they know how much food to prepare.
CRUISES – Mike Hall, Cruise Master
Mike asked that anyone interested in leading a cruise this year to please contact him, 667-0921.
TITUSVILLE CRUISE– July 30 & 31 – Dick Littrell reported we had 13 boats sign for this cruise and 9 letf Love’s to trailer to Halifax Harbor Marina in Daytona. The Toy stayed on the trailer so the Littrells could travel on Cookie Dough. Not long after leaving Halifax, Last Chance with Pat Cohn and Harley Bixey took a large wake knocking Pat to the floor. It was determined when we stopped for lunch Pat was not going to be able to continue the cruise so they returned to Halifax with the Smiths following to help. Everyone else went on to Kennedy Point Yacht club and Marina, with Awe$um Duck arriving about 7pm. There was swimming before and after the thunderstorm and boat christening before we grilled our dinner: as always, plenty of food for everyone. We had company from some yellow flies during the cruise in the slow speed areas but they only picked on a few people. Other than Pat’s injury, this was a good cruise and weekend and we traveled 109 nautical miles.
SILVER SPRINGS CRUISE – August 20 & 21 – Jim Walker reported we will depart from Love’s Truck Stop at 8am trailering to Hickory Point for launch. We have two sets of locks to travel through for this cruise so you should be prepared to have lunch on the boats. We will beach our boats in the basin on arrival in Silver Springs so everyone will need hotel reservations, Call the Holiday Inn, 1888-465-4329 for a room. Rate should be $89 per room. It will cost approximately $5 per person for the taxi ride to the hotel. This is a good cruise for all size and type boats so join us for a great weekend. Traveling through the river is a great way to see the real Florida and you never know what animals we will see along the way.
LABOR DAY CRUISE – September 3, 4, & 5 – Dick Littrell reported there are two departing times and locations. Those wanting to go on Friday will meet at TA’s Truck Stop on I4 at exit 10 at 9am. Everyone going on Saturday will depart from Love’s Truck Stop at 8am with Jim Walker leading the caravan. We will trailer to the Train Station Park Ramp in Venice for launch. Plans are to cruise the Intercoastal Waterway through Charlotte harbor and across Boca Grande Inlet. Lunch on Saturday will be at Cabbage Key. After lunch we will continue the cruise to Centennial Harbor. We will have a Docktail party before heading to Joe’s Crab Shack for dinner. There are many things to do in Ft Myers including the Ford, Edison Museums, Shopping, (my vote), Swimming at the hotel pool, going to Ft Myers Beach, or maybe taking a boat ride….. We will be staying Saturday and Sunday at the Winyah and if you need rooms you should call, 239-332-2048. Rates run from $69 - $99 and they do have AAA or AARP discounts. Please mention WHNC when calling for reservations. Dockage is $1.45 per foot and Dick must fax all boat information to the dock master. Please contact Dick if you plan to take this trip, 295-9788 by boat or car so he will know how many people will be attending for the weekend. If you are going on Friday please contact Dick, 295-9788, for information on the Crow’s Nest Marina in Venice. This is an ideal opportunity for boating or driving down for a wonderful holiday weekend.
A cruise committee meeting was held Monday, July 18 and a book of cruises is being established.
The next cruise committee meeting will be August 15 at the club at 7pm. Please attend if you have any suggestions or want to lead a cruise later this year or next.

Pat Cochlin is doing much better and actually graced us with her presence at the meeting, Pat it was great to see you out and about. Phyllis Ingraham was back in the hospital but should be home before you receive this newsletter, give her a call and let you know you are thinking about her. As reported earlier in the newsletter, Pat Cohn fell on Last Chance during the last cruise. Pat broke her hip and on Saturday evening had a partial hip replacement. We are happy to report she is doing much better and she too should be home by the time you receive the newsletter, give her a call and let her know you are thinking about her as well.
OLD BUSINESS: Don’t forget to get all your pictures to Nancy Hall for the albums. David Smith reported the reason there was no air conditioning during Casino Nite was due to a blown breaker and capacitor but then he reported all the air conditioning is installed. We know it is working because the temperature in the club was great during the meeting. Thanks for all the work on getting us cool again!!! There are a few things to still be handled but nothing to prevent use of both air conditioners when necessary. Due to lack of interest John Valich cancelled the GPS class scheduled for August 6 at Hickory Pointe. If there is any interest in another trailering class, please contact Ralph Kear, 644-1477.
NEW BUSINESS: Marty Kidwell passed out flyers for Showtime, to be held Friday evening, October 14th during Luau, there is much help needed for this event so if you want to help behind the scene or perform, please contact Debbie Aldal, 299-3731. Dick reported he and Jackie need help with committees for the weekend so please contact them if you are willing to help Saturday and/or Sunday.
If any one is interested in going on a cruise to Alaska in 2006 please contact me, Becky Smith. I am working up a cruise for July or August flying into either Seattle or Vancouver, cruising to Alaska. There are several options out there and I’m working with a Cruise Planner through Marriott to see what I can put together for the club.
