Potluck dinner at 6:30 PM. Bring a dish to pass.  Regular membership meeting begins at 7:30 PM at the Club, 695 Avenue K SW.  The August 2005 meeting will be August 3 at 7:30 pm.

Commodore Kear called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm with the Pledge to the Flag. 36 members were present.   Phyllis Ingraham read the minutes from the June Board Meeting taken by Margaret Barrett in Phyllis Ingrahams’ absence.  

ACTIVITIES – Susan Hutchinson, Chairperson

FATHER’S DAY BREAKFAST and CRUISE – June 18 – Bob Rudy reported 17 people and 8 boats cruised the Chain of Lakes and Breezin received a free tow by the Barretts.  Others joined for lunch at HarborSide with a total of 36 enjoying the events of the day.  The Chain of Lakes is a nice place to cruise for a few hours and if you time it right, you can stop for the Ski show now appearing again at Cypress Gardens.

CASINO NIGHT is July 23 – Arlene Adams reported we will start earlier this year. Starting time is 6pm and the cost is $10 per adult (must be 18 yrs of age for this event).  This is a fun evening at the club with everything from a Slot Machine to Horse Races.  The cost includes $25,000 in play money to be used playing the games and for the Auction at 9pm.  There is a Silent auction during the evening to raise money for the club.  This is a great event with everyone having lots of fun.  You never know what someone will pay for some of the auction items……….Thousands of Dollars for water guns has been known to happen!!! Come join the fun at the club Saturday night!

CRUISES – Mike Hall, Cruise Master

SUNSPREE CRUISEJune 11 & 12Mike Hall reported this cruise was cancelled due to weather.

JULY 4TH WEEKEND John Valich reported there were 3 boats on this cruise, Our Baby Too, Mental Floss and Awe$um Duck departed from Halifax Marina in Daytona and cruised to Beach Marina in Jacksonville on Saturday.  Sunday we cruised to St Simon Island to the Golden Isle Marina. We rented a van to go over to the pier for the afternoon.  From St Simon we cruised Monday to Amelia Island.  Tuesday morning we cruised to the City Marina at St Augustine.  The time in St Augustine was spent shopping, eating, going to the Fort, and to Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum.  We departed St Augustine on Thursday morning returning to Halifax Marina in Daytona for the trip home.  We traveled 350 miles roundtrip, all learned how to put up and take down rain panels multiple times during the trip as we had rain everyday except while in St Augustine.  It was a good trip and everyone had a good time.

Mike Hall reported on the alternate cruise on the Manatee River to Regatta Pointe.  4 boats started the trip with another joining along the way. The Cook’s met everyone for lunch and the Tremblay’s joined the group for fireworks Monday evening. Everyone left different days and the Via’s discovered they could navigate the trip home using the GPS.

TITUSVILLE CRUISEJuly 30 & 31Dick Littrell reported we will leave from Love’s Truckstop on SR559 at 8am trailering to Halifax Harbor Marina in Daytona.  Our destination is Kennedy Point Yacht club and Marina, lunch enroute.  Bring your own meats for grilling and a dish to pass for dinner, grills furnished by KPYC.  There is a swimming pool and hot tub for use during the weekend.  We will be christening the new boats this weekend.  Bring food for breakfast on Sunday.  There is a Holiday Inn next door with rates for a STD room $89 w AAA or AARP.  Call 321-269-2121 for reservations if you need a room and Dick Littrell, 295-9788 if you plan to join the cruise so he can reserve the slips.  This cruise is by the Intracoastal waterway to Indian River by way of Mosquito Lagoon.  A good cruise for all size boats.

SILVER SPRINGS CRUISEAugust  21 & 21Mike Hall reported Jim Walker will be our cruise leader for this cruise and everyone will need hotel reservations as we can not stay on the boats.  This is also a good cruise for all size, type boats so join us for a great weekend.  More information provided at the August meeting.

A cruise committee meeting was help Monday, July 18 and a book of cruises is being established.

A cruise to Hutchinson Island is being planned for New Year’s weekend, if you are interested please let me know, Becky – 863-968-0338.  I have 10 slips reserved but no rooms at this time.

Remember if you do not have a boat, but would like to ride along on a cruise, contact the cruise leader and we will see what we can do to get you a ride.

WAYS & MEANS – Joanne Cook, Chairperson

Joanne reported there was a Ways & Means meeting June 13.  A revised budget was created due to the lack of membership and will be presented to the Board of Directors at the July Board meeting.

Ships Store – Bob and Debby Rudy, Chairpersons

Bob and Debby reported they have shirts in stock if you need one or two.  If you want something they don’t have, please contact the Ruddys to place an order, 421-7463.  

Liquid Caddies with the WHNC logo are available for sale, at a cost of $10 with approximately $2.40 per caddy being given to the club toward operating expense. The caddy actually includes 3 different, removal attachments for just about anywhere you need a cup holder.  Colors available are black or white and the white ones have Winter Haven Nautical Club and the flags on the holders.  Please contact Becky Smith if you are interest in purchasing a Liquid Caddy.  968-0338.

HOUSEKEEPING & GROUNDS – Frankie Via & Dennis Butler, Chairpersons

Workday will be October 8 in preparation for Luau.

RENTAL COMMITTEE – David Smith, Chairperson

The Bass Club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month.  Reservations: Pat and Bob Wells, July 30; Kidwells, August 19, 2005.  Rentals: August 6 (PD), August 13 (deposit), September 3 (PD), September 14, November 24 (PD), December 24 (PD) and February 4, 2006

RECYCLING COMMITTEE – Richard Keach, Chairperson

Richard reported we need more aluminum brought in for recycling.

SUNSHINE COMMITTEE – Gloria Wynne, Chairperson

Patti Cochlin would appreciate phone calls as she is still unable to get out much due to breaking her foot.  Lucille Tremblay’s father has been ill for several weeks now and still not home.  Becky Smith’s father was in the hospital in Jacksonville.


OLD BUSINESS:  Don’t forget to get all your pictures to Nancy Hall for the albums.   David Smith reported all the air conditioning is installed but there was a problem with TECO allowing the second electrical service.  A meeting was scheduled for Monday, July 18 with TECO about new a new electrical service.

NEW BUSINESS: John Valich will host a GPS class August 6 at Hickory Pointe on the Harris Chain of Lakes.  More details on time and cost will be provided at the August meeting but the plan is to have the class and then everyone practice what they have learned with a cruise on the chain.  Ralph Kear will lead another Trailering course.  Please contract Ralph for more information, 644-1477.  Debbie Aldal asked for you to contact her if you are interested in performing for Showtime for Luau.  There will be a Boat Smart Classes at Chain of Lakes – July 14,21 and 28.  WHNC has renewed it’s participation as a club with BoatUS.  This provides a discount to club members when you renew or sign up for BoatUS membership.  You get 50% off the regular annual dues if you renew or signup with BoatUS and give them our Cooperating Group ID number – GA81176B.  There are many benefits for joining BoatUS, including discounts on gas purchases at participating marinas.  If you would like more info on the benefits you can check out www.boatus.com or contact Margaret Barrett or Ralph Kear.

If any one is interested in going on a cruise to Alaska in 2006 please contact me, Becky Smith.  I am working up a cruise for July or August flying into either Seattle or Vancouver, cruising to Alaska.  There are several options out there and I’m working with a Cruise Planner through Marriott to see what I can put together for the club.
