Potluck dinner at 6:30 PM. Bring a dish to pass. Regular membership meeting begins at 7:30 PM at the Club, 695 Avenue K SW.
The December 2005 meeting will be December 7 at 8:00 pm. Voting for Officers and Board of Directors will be from 6pm – 8pm.
Vice Commodore Valich called the meeting to order at 7:35 pm with the Pledge to the Flag. 37 members were present. Phyllis Ingraham read the minutes from the October Board Meeting.
ACTIVITIES –Susan Hutchinson, Chairperson
Luau – October 14, 15 & 16 - Dick reported there were 51 – 54 in attendance during the weekend. Dick thanked everyone for coming and extended special thanks to the following members: Loretta Bise and Phyllis Ingraham for handling Registration for the weekend, Lucille Tremblay, Jackie Littrell and Richard Keach for decorating, Marty Kidwell and Debbie Aldal for handling Showtime and Lucille and Jackie for dinner on Friday. Thanks to Jim and Phyllis Walker and Bill and Margaret Barrett for preparing breakfast and Arlene Adams for taking on the Auction and Door Prizes. Also, thank you to Barbi Dodds for the lottery wreath and Lucille for the nautical throw. Thank you to Joanne Cook and Pat Wells for social hour on Saturday and to Bob Tremblay for handling 50/50.
Chili Dinner & Chinese Auction – November 5 – 6:00 - $5 Adults, $2 children under 10. Joanne Cook reminded us of this event. If you would like to make Chili for the event, please contact Joanne, 401-3480 or Phyllis Walker, 967-7672. This is a fun evening for all………
Alaska in 2006 – meeting at the club Sunday, November 6 at 2pm. If you are interested in going to Alaska with other members of the club, please come over and get all your questions answered by the cruise planner. If you can not make it and would like information please call me, Becky Smith 738-1506. The trip is planned for July 25 through August 5, 2006. We will fly to Fairbanks for a land tour and train trip into the interior of Alaska then cruise from Seaward to Vancouver. The landtour is 4 days and the cruise 7 days. There are still cabins available if you think you might like to join us.
Thanksgiving Dinner and decorating for Christmas – November 13 – 4:00 – come joins other members at the club for dinner and decorating the club for the holidays. Turkeys will be furnished so bring a side dish to share and enjoy the camaraderie of being a member of the Winter Haven Nautical Club.
GPS Class – November 16 – 7pm – John Valich and the Lakeland Sail and Power Squadron is hosting a GPS class at the club for all WHNC and LSPS members as well as anyone else wanting to learn more about how to use their GPS. The cost of the class is $10 and includes a USPS GPS Learning Guide. I’ve taken part of this class and it is very informative and helpful. I was actually able to set my GPS to track our course well enough to do a trackback after the first class I attended……
Christmas Dinner and Installation of Officers – December 10 at Four Lakes – Happy Hour 5 – 6pm, Dinner 6 – 7:30pm $25 per person. Jack Hardy reminded everyone he needs to know who is attending and your monies to Jack Hardy now as we have to have a count for the caterer. After dinner and the installation of officers there will be a cash bar and Karaoke for those who would like to sing. Dinner will consist of Soup, Salad Roast Pork, Butterfly Cincken, Vegetable Medley, Garlic Mash potatoes, rolls, pie and non-alcoholic beverages. Remember, contact Jack Hardy, 401-9883 and let him know if you plan to attend this event.
Lighted Boat Parade and Open House – December 3 – 5:00 – this is a fun evening at the club cooking hotdogs over the fire and watching all the decorated boats in the parade. Plan to join us at the club for the evening. Everyone is welcome so bring your friends to see the club and meet the members, maybe they will decide to join the club….
Caroling at the Walkers – December 17 – 6:30 – Phyllis reported everyone is welcome to join us for a hayride and Christmas Caroling with hotdogs and other goodies after Caroling……bring a dollar toy (unwrapped) for Santa to give out to the children in the neighborhoods. Please contact Phyllis and Jim if you need directions to the house, 967-7672. Come Join the FUN!!!
New Year’s Eve at the Club – December 31 – this will be an informal event so if you would like to join other club members to ring in the new year, come on over.
Planning meeting for 2006 – November 9 – 7pm – If you would like to have input into the events planned for 2006, please attend this meeting. Our cruise committee already has a proposed list of crusies for the year. We will determine social events during the meeting and discuss the proposed cruises so we can get the calendar ready for the December meeting. If you can not attend the meeting but have a suggestion or two or want to host one of the social events or a cruise please let a board member or officer know.

MT DORA CRUISE – October 23 – Bill Barrett reported there were 3 boats and 8 people for this cruise as everyone else backed out due to hurricane Wilma. We departed Love’s Truck Stop about 8:30am and trailered to Hickory Point to launch for the cruise to Mt Dora. Lake Harris was a little rough and Bob allowed Awe$um Duck to lead the way. There was a great Arts and Craft Fair going on when we arrived and Becky Smith decided shopping was more important that eating lunch. She shopped while the rest of us ate. It was a great boating day and we had no rain and only a minor problem with Bob on the way back to Hickory Point. Sorry you missed a good boating day…..
ST AUGUSTINE CRUISE – November 26 and 27 This is our yearly trip to St Augustine and is a great trip. Mike Hall will be our cruise leader as the Barretts will be out of town for the holiday. There are some members cruising on Friday and some on Saturday, please contract Mike, 287-4595 if you plan to go. Mike will let you know what time to report to Love’s Truck Stop, I4 and Hwy 559 on Friday or Saturday to trailer to Halifax Marina in Daytona. If you need a hotel room, please call the Marion Hotel, 904-829-2261 for reservations. Mike needs to know who is going ASAP to make slip reservations so please don’t delay, give him a call with the name and size of your boat and if you plan on leaving Friday or Saturday.
Cruise to Hutchinson Island is being planned for New Year’s weekend, if you are interested please let me know, Becky – 863-968-0338. I have 10 slips reserved but no rooms at this time, with 6 of the slips spoken for. I will be contacting those going for boat and credit card information to secure our slips.
Gasparilla – January 27 - 29 – We received information from Tampa Cruis-A-Cade promoting their annual event for Gasparilla weekend. Registration begins on Friday with Dinner and Entertainment for the evening. Saturday begins all the festivities for Gasparilla, they will cast off from the club at 10:30am to join the pirates ships and return to the club for the Commodore Party beginning at 5pm. This will be discussed at the planning meeting on the 9th and I will have all the information with me so please let me know if you need additional information. Remember if you do not have a boat, but would like to ride along on a cruise, contact the cruise leader.
WAYS & MEANS – Joanne Cook, Chairperson
Joanne reported the Ways and Means committee did meet and she presented the proposed budget for 2006 to the Board of Directors. A few items need to be addressed and she will present the admended proposal to the board at the November board meeting and to the general membership in December. Margaret Barrett reported Loretta Bise is again sponsoring a Home Interior Candle Sale for the club. There is a new flyer this year. The sale will run for two weeks, ending November 21. Please contact Margaret, 965-7629 if you would like one of the flyers. They will be at the club on the 21st and the candles should be back by the Christmas Party and Installation.

Liquid Caddies with the WHNC logo are available for sale, at a cost of $10 with approximately $2.40 per caddy being given to the club toward operating expense. The caddy actually includes 3 different, removal attachments for just about anywhere you need a cup holder. They are great for the boats and even your lawn mower, just ask David! Colors available are black or white and the white ones have Winter Haven Nautical Club and the flags on the holders. RENTAL COMMITTEE – David Smith, Chairperson
The Bass Club meets the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of every month. Reservations: Rentals: November 12, November 24 (PD), November 26, December 10, December 24 (PD) and February 4, 2006 John thanked David for the great job he has done Renting the club this year.
RECYCLING COMMITTEE – Richard Keach, Chairperson
Richard reported we need more aluminum brought in for recycling we are behind last year.

OLD BUSINESS: Don’t forget to get all your pictures to Nancy Hall for the albums. David Smith provided the general membership information on the bids he received to replace the roof. The Board is asking for a couple more bids on a metal roof before making a recommendation at to the direction to take. David did let the membership know we need to make a decision soon as we do have leaks and reminded the membership we did receive monies from the insurance company last year which will cover part of the cost. Margaret Barrett reported we were in error at the October general membership meeting when we voted to approve the changes to the Cruise Rules and Club Rules and Regulations as we should have approved during the November general membership meeting. Therefore, Becky Smith read the proposed changes discussed at the October meeting and after discussion and one change, the membership approved the Cruise Rules and the club Rules and Regulations with the proposed changes.
NEW BUSINESS: The Nominating committee, Becky Smith, Phyllis Walker, Lucille Tremblay and Richard Keach have a proposed ballot for 2006 officers and board members. Becky presented the ballot to the membership and asked for nominations from the floor. As there were no additional nominations or volunteers the ballot for our 2006 Officers and Board Members will be:

Time for the holidays again and time for everyone to give thanks for all we have and help those less fortunate. Frank and Phyllis Ingraham are again helping with the Toys for Tots campaign so bring in unwrapped toys through the December meeting. Debbie Aldal has agreed to help us find a family to adopt and I will get information out as soon as she has it so we can help another family have a better Christmas. Any donations will be appreciated and if you don’t have time to shop monetary donations for both endeavors will be accepted.
