ACTIVITIES

   Susan Hutchinson, Chairperson

July-2008 – Susan reported that the club had no activities for the month of July.  Many of the members were out of town on vacation.

Casino Night – Aug 23rd – 6:30 PM, Entry cost is $10.00 for which you receive play money to gamble with.  Arlene Adams reported that all of her previous helpers had accepted the challenge.  There will be Black Jack, Texas Hold’em, Horse Races, Crap Table and a real slot machine.  This will be followed by a “Silent Auction” for real cash.  Of course you will get the chance to buy some special items with your winning play money.  She is still in need of items for the Silent Auction.

Galley Chef Cook-off – Sept 6th – Pat Wells will chair this event and will have information at the next meeting.  You may contact her if you wish to participate- (299-1319).

Fish Fry – Sept 27th - - this date will be changed due to a rental.  More information at the Sept meeting.

October Event – Becky requested someone to come up with ideas to take place on our usual “October Week-end” fundraiser.  It can be one day or two.  Anyone with suggestions, please contact her.  Becky will do the Scavenger hunt by boat or land, depending on the lake levels at the time.

CRUISES

    John Valich, Cruise Master

Twin Dolphin- July 3rd to 6thMike Hall lead this cruise with a total of 8 boats with 18 plus people starting out. That included the Guyer’s, Littrell’s. Hall’s, Burgess’s, Valich’s, Kear’s, Emry’s, and Smith’s.   Some launched from Gulfport Municipal Marine on Thursday with the others following at different times.  On Friday, all went on a field trip to Council’s Pool Room in downtown Bradenton.  They met up with friends from the Lakeland Power Squadron.  Nancy Hall proved to be the “pool shark” of the day.  Later, the marina hosted a pool party complete with BBQ and a keg of beer.  Club members provided the side dishes. The party was increased by the arrival of the Tremblay’s, Vincent’s, Well’s, Davis, the Valich’s daughter, and the Herl’s.  All enjoyed great fireworks over the river.  On Saturday, everyone went back to the pool room for more pool and burgers.  The group (28 or 29) all enjoyed dinner at the restaurant at the marina.  The party broke up early on Sunday morning, hoping to beat the daytime thunderstorms.  It turned out to be a great cruise with two possible nominations for the annual “broken boat” award.

July 26th John reported that this cruise was cancelled as a boating event because of the bad weather but turned into a cruise by car.  The Valich’s along with their friend Dave from Lake Worth, the Hutchinson’s, Smith’s, Littrell’s, Tremblay’s, and Vincent’s, all enjoyed the good food and entertainment at “Stumps”. Everyone went for a street car ride and enjoyed ice cream before returning home.

Silver Springs – August 1st – This cruise has been cancelled.

Hontoon Island – Aug 16th & 17th – There is no cruise leader for this cruise so far.  The Hall’s and Tremblay’s will be going on Friday.  On Saturday, John will meet everyone at Love’s at 8 AM.  So far he will be joined by the Kear’s, Smith’s, Bob Beckner and maybe the Guyer’s.  If you wish to make reservations at the hotel, call them at 800-248-2474.

Labor Day – Hutchinson Island – Aug 30th to Sept 1st – John will lead this cruise.  See the flyer for more information.  He needs to know if you are going.  He plans to leave IHOP, on SR 60, to go to a new launch site.  Call John ASAP to let him know (644-1122).

Tampa Bay Sunset Cruise – Sept 13th – John needs to know if anyone is interested in doing this cruise.  He will have more information at the next meeting.

HOUSEKEEPING

    Pat Wells, Chairperson

Becky reminded everyone that there is a workday on Saturday, Aug 9th.  Please be here at 9 AM.

Commodore Becky Smith reminded members that it is time to look at the Rules and Regulations.  A Chairperson is needed to form a committee to review them and present any ideas for changes at the October meeting.  She also reported that we need a Nominating Committee to start looking for next year’s officers.  If you wish to volunteer for either of these committees, call Becky at 968-03398.

OLD BUSINESS

John Valich reported that he has no further information available on the ditch since the report in the Board Minutes.  He will push Mike Britt to get the pipe done.  Gale Guyer suggested we put something in writing about the problem of the “cave-in” of the bank on the ditch.  It should cover our liability if anything should happen during a rental.  John will look into this.

Becky reported that David is meeting with a man to get a price on taking care of the tree in front of the building.  This has to be taken care of before a storm comes through and causes possible damage to the club. No-one else has gotten estimates as of this date.  Gale Guyer suggested we call Environmental Services of W.H.   The club will accept donations toward the cost.  Don Cook donated $100.00 and Arlene Adams donated $20.00.

NEW BUSINESS

Arlene Adams brought to everyone’s attention the picture posted on the board of the 3 young club members that volunteered for the Red Cross and raised $70.00 each at the Lazy River at Cypress Gardens.

50/50 was won by Susanne Guyer in the amount of $17.00.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Phyllis Ingraham
